Level 20 Regression

What is Regression?

Once your character reaches level 20, they have the option of undergoing Regression and becoming a level 4 character. They may retain their personality, memories, and possessions, but have regressed in their skills.

Regression Process

After reaching level 20 and acquiring the necessary amount of exp on a character, you can choose to expend an amount of EXP (see Regression EXP Costs) to regress the character. That character will then become level 4 with 2700 EXP. The regressed character does not have to have the same class as before, and can be an entirely new build. Race, gender, and identity must be the same as before (unless otherwise stated by a chosen Regression Trait). Just like all new characters, the regressed character can select an additional feat.

Regression Form

Submit the form above in a Character Update Regression ticket.

Regression EXP Costs

The EXP cost for Regression represents the minimum amount of exp the character must have in order to Regress. Note that any leftover exp does not carry over to the regressed character (all Regressed characters start at level 4 with 2700 exp).

Perk Retention

A character that undergoes Regression again can select the same Major/Minor Trait as before, but cannot select the same Major/Minor Trait Type.

Major/Minor Traits and EXP Shop Perks acquired are retained through Regression. If the number of EXP Shop Perks retained exceeds the minimum requirement determined by the stats of the new character, those EXP Shop Perks are still kept, but no more of that type can be gained.

Note that there is no limit to the number of times a character can undergo Regression.

Reworks

By any type of rework (soft, total, etc.), you cannot change chosen Major/Minor Regression Traits, but you can change the associated Major/Minor Regression Trait Type. For example, if a chosen Major Regression Trait was Hidden Talent, you could change the chosen ASI/Feat, but would not be able to change the Major Regression Trait to another such as Otherworldly Blessing.

Regular New Player Reworks are no longer available to regressed characters. Instead, they have one rework available from level 4-17 that functions as a New Player Rework.

Dungeons & NPW Events

Dungeons are available to regressed characters even if they have participated before their Regression (as long as they had not participated yet in their current Regression).

Similarly, regressed characters are able to participate in New Player Week events. Level or tier requirements must still be followed.

Regression Traits

Major Traits

Corrupted Blessing - 20,000 EXP (50 OOC Days)

You gain a chosen benefit of a Dark Gift from Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft from the list below.

Draconic Gift - 40,000 EXP (100 OOC Days)

You gain a chosen benefit of a Draconic Gift from Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons from the list below.

Imbued Bestowment - 50,000 EXP (125 OOC Days)

You obtain a soulbound magic item that has a sentient nature. The rarity of the chosen magic item will be Common, and can progress in rarity up to Very Rare as the character levels in tier. The item chosen must be based on an approved Very Rare magic item (or homebrew Very Rare approved by DM Team), and any homebrew specifically regarding the progression of the item at each tier, sentient statistics/personality, and other features must be discussed and approved by the DM Team.

Hidden Talent - 60,000 EXP ( 150 OOC Days)

You gain an additional feat or ability score improvement (+2 to a single AS, or +1 to two different AS).

Otherwordly Blessing - 60,000 (150 OOC Days)

You gain a chosen boon/blessing from the list below.

Soulbound Companion - 60,000 EXP (150 OOC Days)

You gain the eternal companionship of a creature’s spirit. Choose any approved creature (listed below) from the bestiary that is CR 2 or below. If you request a creature from a different sourcebook (or not on the list) it must be approved by the DM team. (Note: no Aberrations, Humanoids, Oozes, or Swarms are approved. All creatures are Legacy, no MPMM creatures.)

The creature obeys your verbal commands (no action required by you). It takes its turn on your initiative. If you don't issue a command, the creature takes the Dodge action. If you are incapacitated or absent, your creature companion acts on its own, focusing on protecting you and itself. It never requires your command to use its reaction, such as when making an opportunity attack.

If the creature dies, it returns to your side at full hp when you finish a long rest.
